Fingal Soccer Festival 2012 on Phoenix FM
Phoenix FM broadcast live from the Fingal Festival of Football in Sportslink, Santry, on Saturday August 18th. Our weekend magazine show, Saturday Soundbites, was on air all afternoon, broadcasting the football action, as well as interviewing the organisers, team managers, players and supporters and playing lots of good music. There was also a separate Girls Soccer Festival on the day, to promote U10 and U12 girls soccer.
The station has been involved with this annual sporting event for many years. The Festival originated as a cross-border invitational football tournament called the Harmony Cup, where schoolboy teams from Northern Ireland were invited to play local Dublin 15 teams. Now in its 10th year, it has grown to cater for 32 teams across five sections: boys, girls, Special Olympics, Powerchair and Irish Street Leagues, with competitors coming from local communities all over Ireland, allowing young people from very different backgrounds and cultures to mix and play sports together. Phoenix FM was especially pleased to support the Special Olympics, Powerchair and Irish Street Leagues teams.
