Africa Day is a special event that’s held on May 25th every year which It brings people together to honor the diverse cultures and potential of Africa. This year the 2023 will mark the 60th anniversary of the The significance of May 25th, when 32 African countries signed the Charter of the Organization of African Unity (OAU) which became the African Union (AU).

This charter aimed to promote unity among African nations, advocate for independence from colonialism and apartheid, and foster economic and political cooperation. Africa Day also provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress made by the African Union in safeguarding human rights and freedoms across the continent. It serves as a reminder of the vision for a prosperous and free Africa for all its people.

The Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) organizes various events each year to mark the occasion, including the largest Africa Day celebrations in Ireland this year.
