Four Letters of Love PhoenixFM Film Reviews

Dáire’s review

Four letters of Love tells the dual narrative of two true loves seemingly meant to be. On one side we have Nicholas, played by Fionn O’Shea, a quiet and observant young man who ventures west with his father, played by Pierce Brosnan, springing with a new verve for life. Slightly further west we have Isabel, played by Ann Skelly, who’s journey to the Irish mainland is embittered by her beloved bothers sudden illness, leaving him unable to accompany her. With an aura of fate surrounding the pair they will indulge and endure life until the stars align.

Director Polly Steele takes advantage of the scenic and serene countrysides to elevate the beauty and still moments of contemplation. And this is complimented be Anne Nikitin’s score which puts us in a calming, fairytale-like trance. The staller cast too, including the yet to be mentioned, Helena Bonham Cart bring a great deal to Niall Williams adapted script. Our two leads, O’Shea and Skelly, embody the youthful yearning to discover both the world and themselves

While I personally wasn’t welling up, it’s clear that a lot of time, effort and collaborative work went  into this film. A cosmic draw of ones love and purpose guides each character, which any passionate person or artist can relate to. 6/10
